Building Roots, Building Community: Celebrating New Habitat Homeowners in West Des Moines

Homeownership strengthens neighborhoods, builds stability, and fuels local economies — and in West Des Moines, we’re proud to see more families planting roots right here in our community.

Recently, nine new Habitat for Humanity homeowners were celebrated by the Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity, including three families who now call West Des Moines home. The event was filled with music, laughter, and a shared sense of accomplishment as families received the keys to homes that represent not just shelter, but opportunity and belonging.

Every home built through Habitat for Humanity reflects the strength of collaboration — between volunteers, donors, and cities committed to inclusive growth. Infill projects like these help transform underused lots into vibrant, connected neighborhoods, reinforcing West Des Moines’ vision for sustainable, people-centered development.

When families have the opportunity to own a home, they invest in their future and in ours. Together, we’re continuing to build a community where everyone can thrive.

Homeownership builds more than houses — it builds hope.
