RecPlex to Add $30 million Ice Arena

The MidAmerican Energy RecPlex expansion in West Des Moines, Iowa, is set to enhance the city’s recreational offerings with a new, state-of-the-art ice arena. This major project, estimated to cost around $30 million, aims to provide more opportunities for ice sports in the region. The expansion could add up to 100,000 square feet to the RecPlex, and will greatly expand the facility’s capacity, potentially attracting new events and sports programs to the area.

Construction could begin as early as summer 2025, with projected completion in 2026.

The ice arena will not only serve local athletes but is also expected to draw visitors from surrounding areas, helping to boost tourism and local businesses. This development is part of a broader initiative to enhance the RecPlex as a hub for family-friendly activities and events, positioning it as a key asset for the community for years to come. With the project’s focus on both recreation and economic growth, the RecPlex expansion is a significant step forward for West Des Moines as it continues to evolve as a vibrant suburban destination.
