The Renovation of Val Air Ballroom in West Des Moines

It is with great excitement that we announce the forthcoming completion of the renovation of the Val Air Ballroom, a beloved historical landmark in West Des Moines!

After months of unwavering dedication and tireless effort, this treasured piece of history has undergone a remarkable transformation, poised to stand as a beacon of heritage for generations to come. With meticulous attention to detail, we have preserved its intricate architectural features while bolstering its structural integrity, ensuring it remains a symbol of West Des Moines’ rich past.

Recently, our department had the privilege of touring the renovated Val Air Ballroom, set to open its doors later this month. Through innovative financing mechanisms, including tax increment financing, the city entered into a development agreement with the property owner, providing an economic development package to support the costs of this monumental restoration and building enhancements. Situated on 8.5 acres at 301 Ashworth Road in the Val Gate Urban Renewal Area, this 35,000 square foot music and entertainment venue stands as a testament to the city’s commitment to preserving its cultural heritage. The total project cost amounted to an estimated $14,500,000, a worthwhile investment in the preservation of our community’s history.

As we eagerly anticipate the grand reopening of the Val Air Ballroom, let us reflect on the value of preserving our past while embracing the promise of the future. Join us in celebrating this momentous occasion and honoring the legacy of this iconic landmark!
